Hayleys Fabric PLC has joined the “Roadmap to Zero Programme”, overseen by ZDHC Foundation as a value chain affiliate, in a clear step towards minimising its chemical footprint to achieve a toxic free fashion industry. These efforts will enable Hayleys Fabric to further support the programme’s vision to establish a widespread implementation of its sustainability initiatives, whilst driving innovation and best practices in the textiles, apparel and footwear industries.

Further reinforcing its commitment, the company began working towards ZDHC, even prior to becoming an official contributor to the Roadmap to Zero Programme. In fact, by 2017, Hayleys Fabric had already achieved its goals for 2020 by working closely with several world-class apparel brands.

Now, they will work closely with a growing ZDHC Community of over 160 leading brands, value chain affiliates and associates, in order to drive its responsible chemical management practices worldwide. This endeavour will be a great opportunity for Hayleys Fabric to share its best practices, whilst maintaining its status quo as a pioneer and trendsetter in the textile manufacturing industry.

“As a trusted leader in textile production, we are pleased to partner with the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme and become a value chain affiliate, which we view as the next big step in our sustainability journey.” Mr. Rohan Goonetilleke, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Hayleys Fabric PLC said. He further stated that the company’s ZDHC commitment will form part of their overarching growth strategy as well.

Mr. Dunstan Weragala, Head of Compliance at Hayleys Fabric went on to elaborate that against the challenging backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company decided to invest continuously on its key strategic pillars namely, Innovation, Sustainability and Collaborations. Several recent sustainability initiatives undertaken by Hayleys Fabric have also been highlighted below;

  • Being the first fabric mill in Sri Lanka to commit to the SBTi (Science Based Target initiative), a joint initiative by United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute and WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to enable companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets and help prevent the worst impacts of climate change
